What is the Political Science program?This program explores government systems, giving you an understanding of topics relating to government, law, and organizational management. What will I learn?You’ll study the major fields of political science: American politics, international relations, comparative politics, and policy analysis. You’ll also study Texas and Mexican American politics. From course work in these fields, you’ll learn about the American political system, globalization, terrorism, environmental policy, civil rights, U.S. foreign policy and the international system. You’ll also develop skills in critical and analytical thinking, research design and statistical analysis, leadership and oral and written communication. |
What can I do with this course of study?This program will prepare you to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science or a related field. Political Science majors can pursue careers in the private sector, the non-profit sector and government, such as political consultant, data analyst, social science research assistant and more. What's special about the program?This program offers opportunities beyond the classroom, including internships with judges, law firms, legislators, community organizations, government agencies and businesses. Study abroad programs are also available at universities in Mexico, Spain and Germany, among others. In addition, SAC hosts a Model Organization of American States that completes yearly against other college and university teams from across the country. Students can also join Model UN Society teams at local universities to participate in annual competitions. SAC and other area universities offer a Student Government Association where you can develop your leadership skills. |
To begin your application for Associate of Arts with a pre-major in political science you must first fill out the Apply Texas application. You will need to select Public Service as your "First School Choice" then "Political Science pre-major" for the Major.

At San Antonio College there is Model Organization of American States that completes yearly against other college and university teams from across the country. At area universities there are Model UN Society teams that students can join and participate in yearly competitions. At San Antonio College and other area universities there is a Student Government Association that helps students develop their leadership skill.
